Subluxation has been recognized over the years to be a dangerous medical condition that can result in pain, injury, abnormal and limited movement, and most dangerously nervous system malfunction resulting in deterioration of health.

What Is Subluxation? Subluxation refers to a change in the normal position and motion of one or more of the vertebrae in the spinal column so that the spinal joints and nervous system are no longer able to function normally. When the vertebrae are misaligned (they are not positioned properly within the spinal column) they often cause irritation and compression to the nerve roots which exit the spinal cord and pass in between each of the vertebrae by either direct or indirect pressure. This irritation may cause pain and/or dysfunction in the spine, the muscle, and the organ tissue as well as imbalance in the normal body processes causing poor and deteriorating health. Subluxation of the extremity joints can also occur and your chiropractor frequently works on problems with shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles.

How Is Subluxation Corrected And What Is An Adjustment?? Doctors of Chiropractic are specialists in neuromusculoskeletal conditions and in correcting spinal subluxation. They are trained to restore the misaligned vertebrae to their proper position which takes the dangerous pressure off the nerve roots. This is done manually with a chiropractic adjustment and is all natural meaning it is drug and chemical free without any artificial substances used on or in the body and without resorting to dangerous surgery. Your chiropractor will use his or her hands and apply corrective pressure to the spine using a specific gentle force in a precise direction. The manual pressure restores the alignment and mobility of the subluxated vertebrae and removes the disruption to your joints and nervous system. This frees up your body to function normally and heal itself so that it can function at its optimal level.

At Kirkland Life Chiropractic we also realize the importance of retraining and strengthening the supportive soft tissues of the spine to maintain the corrected structure. In addition to adjusting your spine to correct the subluxation we utilize various rehabilitative physical therapies in our office to stretch and strengthen the muscles and ligaments as well as teach you how to maintain your normal structure and avoid future subluxation.
